THE WI AND REGIONAL U19 THREAD!!

West Indies cricket discussions

But anyway back to the point in hand, i've been told by someone who is part of the whole youth cricket program that this competition was the best they had seen in terms of quality, and that person has been involved for over twelve years now!! :shock: , he said there's been some very good batting performances and he was encouraged by some of the pacers on view,

I mean even going back a few years when Kraigg was playing u19s you'd usually see three or four tons scored at most, and Kraigg was obviously one of them, also the spinners (like Amir Khan for example) would dominate everything, if a pacer got three wickets in an innings it was big news to rhatid!! :lol: :lol: , but this year pacers really stood up to be counted, which is great to see,

I honestly think this group may have the potential to be better than the current u19s at the world cup right now who are beating all before them, and thats mainly because i think this group's batting may well have more depth to it, i guess we'll see in two years time when it's their turn to go to the world cup.

Given my nature, and most fervent wishes for the future resugence of WI cricket on the international stage that is one of the most compelling statements I have heard in recent times, uttered by someone at the coal face of WI cricket . None of that lilly livered and pathetic "good" nonsense :roll:

"You don't play four quicks to bat first," West Indies coach Roddy Estwick said after his team had won the toss.

... and the team aint doing too badly either. Goes without saying that I wish then to just keep on keeping on till WI once more rule the roost on the cricket field.

PS. As ever the late Curtis Mayfield grooving on the off-beat.

Yep, thats a big statement that and just personfies the confidence that is running through the camp right now, but to be honest whether we bat first or not it doesn't matter, we get 220 or above then in most cases it's pretty much game over, this team hasn't won nine in a row for nothing!! :lol: , whats also encouraging is the fact that the spinner Hosain is chipping in with two or three wickets per game aswell, plus he and Davis are keeping things tight too, i believe we have the best attack in the competition, lets hope the batters can support them as much as possible.

Hemraj= 1ton

Well in the latest round Hemraj of Guyana and Brian Gayle of Jamaica got tons to help their respective teams to victory, the two spinners Motie and Perriera both got wickets too, meanwhile Mcsween and Jordan, the two winwards pacers helped their team to victory aswell,

Honestly i've never seen a youth season produce so many TONS!! :shock: , i mean when you compare it to the current WI u19 team them batters barely got a ton in the u19s regional competutions, Kraigg obviously got some but apart from him i can't remember many of the others getting any, the likes of Ambris, Hosain and Hodge mainly dealt in 50s, not 100s, only Alleyne i can think of who has quite a few tons at youth level but that was mainly for Surrey academy, not Bim u19s,

But yeah i've been really impressed with this latest crop, the Guyana spin twins Motie and Perriera, the pacers like Greenidge and Mcsween, and the large group of batters lead by Hope and Solanzo, they are gonna be a major force at the next u19 world cup, i have absolutely no doubts about it.

Well in the sixth round of this u19 one day competition there wasn't any tons but a few pacers did step up, the Guyana yute Romario shephard continues to impress and got his second 4fer of the competition, he got his fair share of wickets in the three day competition aswell so clearly he's doing very well right now, also Jamaican seamer Kijana Johnson managed to grab his first 4fer too, while Mcsween got another three wicket hall for himself,

In the batting department Hope once again showed his class, he got himself a 74 to go with a 50 in the last round and a ton before that, Winwards opener Keon George also got himself a 74,

Lastly big up to the Bim leggy Arron Jones who got an astonishing 6/14 against Winwards :shock: , quite incredible considering winwards scored 227 runs.
