"OLYMPIC 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and a powerful-looking Nesta Carter cruised to effortless 100m victories in their first outings of the season at the Queen's/ Grace Jackson Track and Field Meet at the National Stadium yesterday. Fraser-Pryce, representing MVP Track Club, had her usual bullet start, but eased considerably off the pedal winning in 11.47 seconds. She was well clear of Rusheen Reid of University of Technology, 12.17, with Kristina Gentles third in 12.53. A few minutes later, a muscular-looking Carter had things his own way cruising home in 10.59 seconds. He later said he was satisfied with the race and is looking forward to the indoor season."

"Double Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt made his seasonal debut easing home in his 400m heat in 46.71 seconds at the Camperdown Classic yesterday at the National Stadium. But it was his teammate Warren Weir, who did the fastest time in heat three, stopping the clock at 46.21 seconds in upstaging Yohan Blake, who finished second in 46.64 seconds."

"Powell anchored MVP Track Club to an easy 38.62 seconds victory. Winston Barnes, Nesta Carter and Roman Nichol were the other members of the team. UTech finished second in 38.83 and GC Foster College 39.95. In the female race, the quartet of Sherone Simpson, Latoya Greaves, Anniesha McLaughlin and Fraser-Pryce took MVP women's team home in 44.03 ahead of Utech 44.55 and Sprint Tehc 44.67."

"Steel, who got the baton just ahead of Blake, held off the IAAF World Championships 100m champion as the Racers TC team upset their more fancied training partners Racers Lions to win in a new record time of 3:03.74 to 3:04.00. The winning team was Allodin Fothergill, Riker Hylton, Pete Mathews, and Steel, while the Lions squad was made up of Dwight Mullings, Demar Murray, who anchored the team earlier in the heats; Warren Weir, who came in for Usain Bolt; and Blake as Darrien Bent who ran in the morning was also replaced."

At the UWI Invitational, Nicholas Maitland (45.79) beat Usain Bolt (46.44) in one 400m race, while in the other, Allodin Fothergill (46.24) beat Yohan Blake (46.33).

"Double sprint Olympic record holder Usain Bolt and Racers Track Club teammate Yohan Blake had to settle for runner-up spots in the 400 metres at Saturday's UWI Invitational meeting at the Usain Bolt/UWI Track. Bolt, who came to the spotlight running the 400 and 200 metres had to settle for second in heat seven behind eventual time final winner Nicholas Maitland (UWI, Mona) 45.79 seconds to Bolt's 46.67 seconds for fourth overall, while his teammate Blake clocked 46.32 seconds for the runner-up spot behind Allodin Fothergill (46.24 seconds) in heat eleven as they were second and third overall."

"University of Technology's Stephanie McPherson ran another world leading time for the women's 400 metres at the UTech Classic at the National Stadium yesterday. McPherson who clocked a world-leading and personal best 50.78 seconds for the distance at the inter-collegiate championships a week ago, lowered her time to 50.74 but she still felt she could have done better."

"Unconfirmed reports reach ing the Jamaica Observer is that Blake had a minor cramp and he decided to stop immediately upon feeling the unease. Collins, 37, now residing and training in Jamaica, won in 10.25 seconds ahead of Julian Forte in 10.29 seconds."

"YOHAN Blake has been sidelined for at least six weeks after medical reports indicated that his injury appears more serious than first thought. As a consequence, the 100 metres World Champion will miss the Jamaica Invitational, as well as the Doha and Shanghai Diamond League races."

At the Jamaica Invitational, American Tyson Gay threw down the gauntlet in the men's 100m, romping home in 9.86 seconds, ahead of Jamaican Nesta Carter (10.03). Jamaica's Veronica Campbell-Brown won the women's equivalent in 11.01, ahead of Trinidad's Kelly-Ann Baptiste (11.06), with Allyson Felix of the US trailing in fifth.

It was a Jamaica 1-2 in the men's 200m, with Nickel Ashmeade winning in an impressive 20 seconds flat, while Warren Weir came second in 20.14. The women's equivalent was won by Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser in 22.38.

Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic won the men's 400m in 45.06, while new quarter-mile sensation Stephanie MacPherson of Jamaica won the women's equivalent in 50.43, ahead of Britain's Christine Ohuruogu (50.58) and Jamaican Novlene Mills (51.05).

Antwon Hicks of the US won the 110m hurdles in 13.25, ahead of Jamaicans Hansie Parchment (13.26) and Andrew Riley (13.28), while Hicks' compatriot Dawn Harper won the 100m hurdles in 12.62.

Nicholas Gordon of Jamaica won the long jump with a leap of 7.80 ahead of American Will Claye (7.74).
