Kim Collins must be commended for his sterling performance as a 37 year-old who does not have the blessings of his local SKAAA. he currently goes out and performs virtually on his own and utilising whatever contractual monies he may have received to propel himself. I hope he can have another title under his belt and in the process make the defunct SKAAA drool a bit more as they continue to hope for his failure.

I agree, Keith...in his interview, Collins said he's tired of being the bigger man all the time, and that it was time for the Kittian authorities to be the bigger man, for a change, and his selection for the World Champs was in their court.

He can still make lots of money running on the DL circuit, and doesn't need the World Champs to make money. St Kitts-Nevis need him more than vice versa....

Jamaicans took four of the top five places in the men's 200m at Paris on Saturday, with Usain Bolt winning in a world-leading 19.73, ahead of Warren Weir (19.92) and Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre (20.07), while Jason Young was fourth in 20.12, and Nickel Ahsmeade fifth in 20.21.

Kirani James of Grenada became the first man to run under 44 seconds this year to win the men's 400m, clocking 43.96 to beat his American rival Lashawn Merritt (44.09). In the women's 100m, there were season-best times for the top three, as Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser won in 10.92, just ahead of Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare (10.93) and Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast (11.01), while Trinidadian Kelly-Ann Baptiste came fourth in 11.10.

In an exciting 110m hurdles, American Aries Merritt won with a season-best 13.09 ahead of surprise Frenchman Pascal Martinot (13.12), and David Oliver of the US (13.13), while fourth and fifth went to Andrew Riley of Jamaica and Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados, both in a personal-best of 13.14 each.

The men's long jump was won by Jamaica's Damar Forbes with a leap of 8.11, with Britain's Chris Tomlinson taking second with 8.08. The women's 400m hurdles was won by the impressive Czech Zuzanna Hejnova in 53.23, with Britain's Perri Shakes-Drayton taking second, and Jamaicans Kaliese Spencer and Ristananna Tracey disappointing finishing down the field.

Catarina Ibraguen of Colombia won the women's triple jump with a leap of 14.69, with Jamaican Kimberley Williams coming in fourth with a SB of 14.48.

Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt indicated that he must be the favourite for the World Champs in Moscow, when he won the men's 100m at the London Anniversary Games yesterday in a time of 9.85, despite a poor start. Mike Rodgers of the US came second in 9.98, while another Jamaican, Nesta Carter, was third in 9.99, and Kim Collins of St Kitts-Nevis fourth in 10.03.

Jamaica's Warren Weir won the men's 200m in an impressive 19.89, ahead of compatriot Jason Young in 19.99, which is stunning, considering that Young came fifth in the Jamaica trials, and is not on the team to go to Moscow!

It was another victory for Grenada's Kirani James in the men's 400m, clocking 44.65 to finish way ahead of the field. The women's triple jump was won by Russian Ekaterina Koneva with a leap of 14.52, ahead of second-placed Kimberley Williams of Jamaica (14.38).

Yesterday was another afternoon of enjoyment....

The Track Racers Club, which we need to remind ourselves is just one of two main athletics clubs in the island, beat a number of national teams to win the men's sprint relay in a meet record of 37.75! Veteran Mario Forsythe led off, handed over to young prospect Kemar Bailey-Cole, who then gave it to 200m specialist Warren Weir, before Usain Bolt carried it home by a large margin for the Jamaican team. Weir ran a particularly good leg, and when he handed the baton to Bolt, the Jamaican club had already won the race. France came second in 38.45, Canada third in 38.58, and Australia fourth in 38.71.

The women's 100m produced an interesting result. Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser won her semi in blazing sunshine, clocking a world-leading 10.77, but the final was run in the rain, where she ran a cautious 10.94 for fourth. Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria won the final in 10.79, second went to Barbara Pierre of the USA (10.85), and third to Trinidadian Kelly-Ann Baptiste (10.93). American Carmelita Jeter withdrew from the final, probably to protect herself from injury, ahead of the World Champs in Moscow in mid-August.
