Sunil Narine replaces RoachLEICESTER, England – The selection panel of the West Indies Cricket Board advised today that off-spinner Sunil Narine will replace injured fast bowler Kemar Roach in the West Indies’ Test squad on their tour of the United Kingdom.
Roach has been sidelined with shin muscle soreness, ruling him out of the remainder of the tour. He returned home to Barbados earlier today. The 24-year-old Narine is yet to play Tests for West Indies, but has played eight One-day and two Twenty20 Internationals for the Caribbean side.
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachI wonder if they intend to play him in this next test.
Even if he does play I am not sure that the result will be any different.
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachWI done lose the series and facing whitewash... anything to salvage?
Re: Sunil Narine replaces Roachslightly unfair to include Narine at dis stage in my opinion....with england done win de series an in de ascendancy, i not sure how much it have to gain...
at de best we could hope NARINE mash dem up an we win de last test to salvage someting at atleast... at de worst, de battin will collapse, england will run up a big score and Narine will get hit out de attack juss like Shilly... i expect Narine to do much better dan Shilly, but to debut when WI down 2-0 away to england would be pure foolishness
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachLooks like WI could play two spinners....like Ram and val
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachReally surprised by this, the T&T manager the other day claimed Narine was resting before the Odi's and he wasn't gonna play the test, i guess something has changed since then, first lets see how he gets on in the practice game vs Leicestershire and then take it from there, these conditions aren't spin friendly so he could find it tough in the last test but at the end of the day he's our trump card, with him in the team i believe anything is possible.
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachI hope Narine is actually in England, and will play against Leicestershire over the weekend. It would be stupid to fly him from the Caribbean to England, miss the warmup, and his first taste of English conditions is the Test match. Of course, in order to fly from India to the Caribbean, you would have to pass through England, so I'm hoping the WI selectors asked him to stay over, with Roach experiencing these injury concerns....
I can't see both Narine and Shilly playing. They are both right-hand offies, and Edgbaston is not famous for taking spin, like Old Trafford....
Re: Sunil Narine replaces RoachBad move by the WICB calling up Narine for a dead rubber test match, the conditions are not right for his debut at test level and I have a feeling if he gets chosen on the starting XI he will get hit out of the attack by the English batsmen. He should have rested for awhile after his IPL stint and played in the ODI's and T20's and make his test debut against NZ in the caribbean. These are the kinds of bone headed decisions made by the WICB that completely destroys players.
Re: Sunil Narine replaces Roach
if they were keen on preventing a whitewash they would pik gayle. the urgent problem is with the top order. but they dont want to pik gaye at all. it looks like the gayle issue aint done yet
