Darren Bravo made his first class debut in January 2007---so he is now playing in his 5th year.BallOil wrote:Darren Bravo ODI average drops in the 20s now..to 31. His List A average is 40.
What is going on with this youngster? is he lifting too much weights?
HIS FIRST CLASS AVERAGE IS AN ORDINARY 37.30
With an ordinary 37.30 first class average one can expect ordinary performances from Darren Bravo in International cricket.
He will make a fifty now and then---and his fans will verbally masturbate about him being the next Lara, but the reality is Darren Bravo is an ordinary batsman---he looks pretty---but he is an ordinary batsman.
Bravo averaged 23+ in the world cup and 36+ against Pakistan in the onedayers----he has just failed in his first match against India.
No!
Darren Bravo is not in a free fall----he is just playing to his potential and ability---his one day average is now 31.75

Prince,
Bravo's List A average dipped below 40 after today's match. Bravo should drop down the order... Batting at #3 for the WI is like opening the batting. Sarwan did a good for the last 10 years and should go back to that position. I wonder if Gibson is interfering with Bravo's game. Note, WICB want young players so the can dictate to them.

look man allyuh ease up on lil Bravo eh. wat the hell is going orn here?
bravo is what 21 years old in a side that has little batting and and so jumped all over his 3 fifties in his fist tests and made him number #1, the next Lara.
that was nonsense! few other young westindies batsmen have come have come into such a poor batting side and immediately exposed to top bowling and is expected to score and score as he must to make westindies respectable.
that is a virtual impossibility and dat he is regressing is no surprise at all. I am pleading with them to drop the kid down the order...please.
Lara came into the westindies side at 22 years of age and batted at 5 or six and did not score a test ton til between his 5 and 10 test or soemwhere there.
but Lara came into a far far better batting side than this current westindies side.
the key in the lil Bravo situation is that he is good and westindies must find the best way to get him the career he can have, and not destroy him before he can get going by demanding from him what he cannot give at this stage of his career

I have made the same argument for shive and sars. these are fine proven players who are out of form. but they have done enuff to be given every possible chance to regain their form and careers.
and especialy now that we really have no replacements for them
if you are building a team yu asses your players, select the best and work with them to get them into a team sense, and most of them in form and flowing at the same time. not all 11 will be in form at the same time but with most going yu win matches.
yu build confidence and trust in players when they know their quality is recognised ,that they will be held in confidence when things are down... and given the chance to get back in groove.
it is that same administrative or managerial skill that uses young players properly, protects them according to overal make-up so that get into their careers properly.
players get going at different rates. Alvin kalliecharran and Lawerecne Rowe came in scoring tons. Sobers never scored one until 10 tests of something. Kanhai same thing. not too many great westindian batsmen got off early. Greenidge did. haynes socred many fifties before he rolled into tons. when was shives first ton?
man allyuh stop being totally unreasonable with lil Bravo allyuh hear. all that is necessary is that he is de-emphsised in the order. ..dropped down and allow him his time to flow into the test batsman of class he clerly can become.
and because allyuh making so much damm unnecessary noise about lil bravo I will take a swipe at Shive and sarwan. Sarwan is a lucky man. Sarwan sabotaged westindies in OZ, effed-up royally and if anyone shud be dropped permamently it is he. but my opinion is to stick with him even if the rut he is in is self-generated
shive simply seemed to have run out of emotional energy, lost focus and needs to re-gird himself.
but if these two, since the last tour of Oz, had not regressed and fallen off so badly there would have been no need for lil Bravo at #3 and all wud be well.
give it up Bally and BP. it reads like allyuh have a personall bias against the young man.

This thread is not about Shiv and Sars. Both Shiv and Sars average 40+ in tests and onedayers. If they were to be discarded by the WI selectors today, they would have have had good careers.mapoui wrote:I have made the same argument for shive and sars. these are fine proven players who are out of form. but they have done enuff to be given every possible chance to regain their form and careers.
We're talking about Darren Bravo.
Yes he is incredibly talented, but with a 37.30 first class average after 5 years in cricket one must not expect too much from Bravo.
Bravo has been told that he will be the next WI great and the next Lara-----the truth is Darren Bravo will be lucky to be the next sarwan---averaging 40+ in both tests and onedayers.

Mapoui,
Give what up?
come on man, look at my lead thread... I'm looking for answers.
WICB putting too much pressure on these promising youngsters by getting rid of the seniors.
Give what up?

Bravo looks pretty at the wicket but he lacks production lately. Bravo will get a good run like Devon but why is he regressing? What is Dessi and Gibson doing to help him? What is going on with this youngster? is he lifting too much weights?

Come on Jala, it's a big jump from curry goat to Pro cricket. Is WI preparing these youngsters properly to compete at the highest level? Two or three days camp will not help...jala wrote:it has nothing to do with age...21 my arse!...he is a professional cricketer who is being paid handsomely to play cricket and as such anyone has the right to question his production!
