I'm really disappointed that Gayle has been left out for so many reasons....
1) This was an opportunity for the WICB to say to Gayle, let bygones be bygones, and let's move on. But no, this is going to be just another tit-for-tat that an immature WICB is going to have with an immature Gayle. It's childish, really!
2) This ODI is being played in Jamaica. The WICB have just ensured that hardly any crowds will turn up for this match.
3) After the win in the fourth ODI, selecting Gayle for the fifth ODI would've been a good way of building momentum for the Test series. Gayle is probably the only WI batsman that the Indians fear, because of what he did in the IPL. Instead, when the Indians read that Gayle has been omitted, they're going to feel that they can beat the WI in the fifth ODI, and have the confidence going into the first Test. Now, the Indians are also going to feel that Gayle won't even be playing in the Tests, and will fancy their chances of winning that series even more....
On the plus side, it's good to see Barath back to fitness, and back in the side. But a word of caution: after his excellent start in his first Test, his form has been a bit patchy, so it remains to be seen how he performs.
