that is ghe sate of westindian keeping at the moment. we ran into a bad state wih the retirement of Courtney Brown.

I argued that westindies ought to have called back Brown or Junior Murray to hold on while Ramdin matured...so serious I viewed the lack of keeping expeience.

but now we are almost out of it, with Baugh already matured and keeping well...and Ramdin coming to the time when he shud flower.....and a lot of capable youth behind them.

I look at Simmons with the experience of Dujon in mind. Dujon wast a real keeper but blossomed into one. and again a start at the right time..over 25.

I agree simmons is a risky proposition and i will not fight hard for the experiment. Afros argument is real. if simmons drops catches and lets runs go behind we are in more trouble than if Baugh plays does not score.

he question is if Simmons can improve behind the stumps? and at #7 simmons wud be more free to play his natural game of shots all around the place. I bet he wud score well there, more than he is scoring now

at least the simmons idea is worth consideration

and for all those who keep calling keeping a specialist position.

I agree! keeping is a specialst position... THE SPECIALIST WHO CAN KEEP AND BAT BOTH!

THATS THE SPECIALISATION..KEEPING ALL-ROUNDER..BATTING AND KEEPING.

there is no mroe argument. it is impractical, ridiculous and any other term we want to apply to a the keeping postion as a specialist keeper only. there is no case for such a player. such a player idoes not compute, weakens a side, creates all manner of imbalances.

everytime westindies had a keeper who cud not bat we had migranes. who were they? mike findlay...

before him we had alexander and hendricks...both players who stood up many many times with the bat for the westindies. the here was Desmond Lewis of jamaica an outstanding batsman, who somehow got lost in the mist after an excellent 1971 season with bat and gloves for the westindies.
for a bit there was Ivan mendonza who similarly disappeared after excelelnt work for the westindies with bat and gloves.

then murrays, deryck, david and junior, even milton pydanna, dujon and jacobs, david williams..all who batted well enuff to score good runs for the westindies.

forget about the speiclaist keeper who is dead as the dodo. a keeper is an allrounder and dats dat

I see the good intentions of all contributors who have cited past examples against trying the Simmons as keeper experiment. Like maps i voice my ideas on this only as an experiment so I will not argue too strenuously for it to become an actuality. Nonetheless I remain firmly on the side of those who recognise that WI must have a keeper who is able to excel as keeper and batsman on a consistent basis at Test level - matters not to me how old he is. No doubt the debate will rage on while we look at the merits of whoever plays.

So if Zimbabwe can produce a Taibu why can't we? ruling out keepers just because of their age is rather naive imo, my motto is "IF THEY'RE GOOD ENOUGH!!.. THEY'RE OLD ENOUGH"!!, Corbin and Hamilton are both 20 years old while Dowrich is 19, all older than Taibu when he made his debut, and just because Ramdin failed it doesn't mean the others will too,

For example Hamilton was schooled in an English academy, so his cricketing education is not just from the Caribbean, if we stuck to your logic then Darren Bravo and Barath wouldn't be playing right now because Xavier Marshall failed!!..it doesn't work like that imo.

Ramdin has played 42 tests and has not show any significant improvement in any part of his game...and baugh has only played 12 tests ?(5 since his return) and has shown improvements in his batting (in SL and a few times in this caribbean series) and his keeping, which has been the best I have seen since probably David Williams...

So Baugh stays for another series at least
