But the state of the WI batting is dire. Here are the FC batting averages of the batsmen in the A squad, as posted by Joshua elsewhere.

Bravo- 30.87
Bonner-21.28
Brathwaite- 22.08
Carter -31.00
Corbin- 30.28
Chandrika- 28.71
Hyatt- 27.16
Russell- 21.81
Thomas-24.10
LOL i was waiting for you to pluck this little gem from Sissy.com!!.. ok then let me answer it for you,

1. Chesney Hughes could also have been picked who has a FC average of 34 in county cricket, and it's been in the 40s for most of his time there,

2. Brathwaite, Bonner and Russell are BOWLING ALROUNDERS, plus Thomas is a wicket-keeper,

3. Corbin has only played two proper First class seasons, the first one when he was 19 he was in and out of the CCC side but still got a few 70s, in his second season which was this year he was one of the highest run scorers and got a ton under his belt and many 50s, so his average is only gonna improve from now on,

4. most of our talented young batters ARE IN BANGLEDASH.. let me list them for you..

Adrien Barath= fc avg 41
Darren Bravo= fc avg 37
Kieran Powell= fc avg 37
Kraigg Brathwaite= fc avg 36
Kirk Edwards= fc avg 41

DOESN'T THAT MAKE MUCH BETTER READING GRANDPA MIKE?!! , how many young batters these days average 40 consistantly? not many imo, and others are gonna rise up i believe like Keddy Lesporis who got three 50s for Winwards in the last four day competition, Vishual Singh is meant to have talent aswell, and then there's there yutes from the WI u19 team like Anthony Allyene (who plays for a county side), Hemraj Chanderpaul, Kavem Hodge, Akeal Hosian etc, so don't get your knickers in a twist old boy!!.. TALENT COMING!! 8-) .

The averages you've posted above prove my point....

Not only are our batsmen in the A team underperforming on the FC stage, but so are Bravo, Powell and Brathwaite. Kirk and Barath are doing okayish, at over 40, but ideally you want to have a FC batting average of over 50 if you want to have staying power at international level.

Erm DARREN BRAVO'S AVERAGE IS HIGHER IN TEST CRICKET GRANDPA MIKE!!..so that blows your theory out of the water, secondly like i said how many young batters under 23 are averaging over 40 at Fc level? Kane Williamson isn't and neither is Alex Hales, i can only think of James Taylor and Virat Kohli, not many more around,

Also i don't know if it's been lost on you Mike but BRATHWAITE IS 18 YEARS OLD, please go and find me another 18 year old with a better fc average than him then come back and talk!!..good luck!! .

Correction - not many West Indian young batters average 40 consistently....

In comparison to the list Joshua posted above, let's look at the batsmen South Africa have called into their A team to play the touring Aussies in a couple of days' time. Their FC batting averages are appended.

1) Alviro Petersen - 38.82
2) Farhaan Behardien - 40.03
3) Stiaan van Zyl - 43.87
4) JP Duminy - 50.27
5) Dean Elgar - 46.54
6) Heino Kuhn - 44.31

Quite a contrast, eh?
