In comparison to the list Joshua posted above, let's look at the batsmen South Africa have called into their A team to play the touring Aussies in a couple of days' time. Their FC batting averages are appended.

1) Alviro Petersen - 38.82
2) Farhaan Behardien - 40.03
3) Stiaan van Zyl - 43.87
4) JP Duminy - 50.27
5) Dean Elgar - 46.54
6) Heino Kuhn - 44.31

Quite a contrast, eh?
With all due respect Mike two of them are Tests players (Peterson and Duminy) so i don't see how that's fair, it's like us picking Nash and Sarwan for the A-team, wouldn't make sense, also Heino Kuhn and Farhaan Behardien are 27 and 28 respectively which is older than Edwards,

I don't know what other countries use the A-team for but we tend to use it to give YOUNG PLAYERS vital international experience, Edwards, Brathwaite, Powell, Barath and Darren Bravo all had a spell in the A-team and now they are playing for the seniors, so why can't someone like Corbin make that step up aswell? the A-team as a whole isn't that important, it's the individuals who graduate from it that counts, and so far it's been working nicely for us.

No, it's like picking Dwayne Bravo, who's also an experienced Test player....

But it doesn't matter, because Duminy and Peterson can't get into the main Saffer side right now. It doesn't matter how old the A team players are, because they are supposed to be your second XI. As we've seen with players like Mike Hussey and Misbah ul-Haq, there should be no age limit on how old you are when you make your Test debut.

Dwayne is clearly out of the picture right now and hasn't played in the last TWO TEST SERIES, Nash played against India and so did Sars, so your point doesn't really add up, also YOU'RE WRONG, Peterson opens alongside Smith in the Test team and played the last game against India, Duminy is in and out and may play against Australia in Deviliers absence,

As for your last point why on earth should we waste a place in the A-team on a veteran? Sars in Injured and Nash has gone back to Australia for a start, SO WHO ELSE IS THERE EXACTLY? come on Mike name some names!! .

Going by past experience, if the WI selectors are going to bring in anyone new, it will be from the players who will be playing against the Bangladesh A side. Narine, Kantasingh, Holder, lesporis and Hughes can only really hope that when those players are called away for the WI A team, that they will be in contention for a place against the Bangla A side.

Afro, don't get me wrong - I like Narine. But I don't think the WI selectors are going to let him jump over the A team....
MATHURIN, NKRUMA BONNER AND DERWIN CHRISTIAN have never played a single match for the A-team, and yet magically they turned up on the pitch when we beat England the other day?!!..and CARLOS BRATHWAITE hasn't played an A-game either, so your notion doesn't hold weight Mike!! ,

And lastly sometimes there's just special cases that just cannot be ignored, we're not just raving about the man because of what he's done in this One day competition, this form is simply a CONTINUATION of his form from the champions league where he dazzled INTERNATIONAL CLASS BATSMEN like Shane Watson, Dhoni, Vijay and Raina amoungst others, the champions league is a much tougher examination than the A-team games imo and he passed with flying colours,

If he wasn't going to India he'd be in that A-team without a doubt, the selectors aren't that stupid, and only a mad man wouldn't take advantage of this opportunity, we may just have a sensation on our hands, whats the point in wrapping him up in cotten whool? especially as he's already used to the Indian tracks now? it wouldn't make sense.
I did tell you, didn't I?

Not even the senior players who are out of the WI team average what the Saffer A team currently average in FC cricket....

Clutching at straws Mike, there would have been no debate if he was in the original squad, but he wasn't so one could only assume that he was going to India straight away, i'd bet big money that he goes for the ODI's though!! , as for the Saffies, how they use their A-team is their business, the bottom line is Brathwaite, Powell, Edwards, Darren Bravo and Barath all graduated from the A-team so we're doing just fine thanks!!...

As for my A-team to play Bang, well it's changed now..

Hyatt
Chandrika
Corbin
Carter
Bravo (c)
Thomas (wk)
Russell
Permaul
Brathwaite/Pascal
Gabriel
Narine

Hard to decide between Pascal and Brathwaite, i think Pascal is a player who deserves to be looked at for the senior team to be honest, looks a lot like Fidel when he bowls and he's been taking wickets for Winwards for the last few seasons, but the boy Brathwaite was very impressive in the four day competition and he's a proper tall kid too, so i'd like to see how he gets on, all in all that's a very strong team and we should win the game, Corbin will be one to watch, it's his A-team debut and he really is a good batter, and last but not least all eyes will be on Narine to see how he gets on, technically he's the most gifted spinner i've seen in the region so i hope he grabs this opportunity with both hands.
