Former West Indies wicketkeeper Deryck Murray is hoping batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin will be motivated to set higher standards for themselves after being snubbed for retainer contracts by the WICB and being omitted from the team’s tour of Sri Lanka.
Following their break from international cricket, the pair was included in the West Indies’ 30-man preparation squad ahead of the forthcoming ICC World Cup in the Indian subcontinent beginning in February.

Murray said the selectors’ controversial decision to drop Sarwan and Ramdin could have two possible outcomes. “They must have been very disappointed to have been left out of the tour and not to have been given a retainer contract,” he told the T&T Guardian this week. “Something like that could provoke two different types of reactions: One, it will be allowed to fester in them as despondency, which would be very detrimental, or two, they would feel that they have something to prove to the selectors and would work even harder on their games. I hope it’s the latter since the team will be a lot stronger if they play to their potential.”

Murray, who served two terms as President of the T&T Cricket Board from 2005-2009, said it would have been difficult to omit the pair at this point in the selection process. “It would have been virtually impossible to leave them out of the 30-man squad. It’s not very surprising, but at this stage it’s not particularly significant. It will be interesting to see who makes the final squad.”

sars was arrogant in his dealing with the wicb. he never believed they would discard him. he felt he was too big to be discarded. he was wrong.

ramdin became complacent and stopped working on his batting. his keeping was good, but his batting was miserable.

both sars and ramdin will be back if they get their act together.

yep..I hope them chaps come back stronger and prove themselves. They had enough time off to rest, reflect, and have a plan going forward.

Interestingly, Deonarine has pulled out of the Guyana squad because of a shoulder injury, and he's been replaced by Chattergoon....

So, his injury problems are still plaguing him.

Ramdin is being brought back too quickly. he needs about 2 years off to mature properly...just like Murray before him!!

Sarwans is coming back at the right time. a lesson leaned........?

it would be great if it is indeed learnt!

Maps...what are you smoking bro? :) Ramdin is the best in the Caribbean.. Why should he sit and watch them amateurs learning on the job? Doh get me wrong, Ramdin still has to work on his batting..

You and I both know Sarwan lost his spot due to politricks..but it probably a good hunch for Sars.

you know my argument re Ramdin..all the young keepers etc. one of them must be sacrificed and I did not want it to be Ramdin. because he is he indeed the best. it would be best if it is Baugh because he is not the best and he is older!

Sarwans drop was his fault and no one else's. he gave his enemies the opportunity to slap him down. you do not fight people and exactly where they have power over you you let down and allow them to decide on your fate.

what decision did you expect them to make?

Sarwan is lucky that he has no real competiton and is now invited back.

Maps...you play your best team always...Ramdin is the man!

WICB board is a bunch of vindictive skunts that should NOT be anywhere near WI cricket. But, the people love em, vote for em, and suh... They installed a cappo that can't make the team merit. Now them talking about fitness...yeah..they doh fit one rass

my approach is what you may call whole. it is nationalistic and long-term as well as short-term.

I AM CONVINCED THAT WESTINDIES PROBELMS WITH THE KEEPING IS ONE OF MATURITY. I STATED THIS ON 446 AND EXPECTED..ANTICIPATED IN FACT...A LONG PERIOD OF KEEPING TROUBLE UNTIL WE DEVELOPED A GROUP OF MATURE PLAYERS BEHIND.

AND WHEN THIS OCCURS WE MUST TAKE CARE TO ENSURE THERE ARE ALWAYS REPLACEMENTS OF REQUIRED MATURITY TO MOVE ON WITH.

you can probably count on the fingers of one hand..at most 2 hands... in the entire history of test cricket, the wicket-keepers who came into test cricket in their late teens or early twenties and made it through careers of 10-15 -20 years at the top.

you think is joke I am making but if you want to have a good test class keeper in a couple 3 years let Ramdin sit and play regionals and local first class cricket. when he hits 27 or so bring him back and we would be good.

just ask Deryck himself! he of all people should know this. but better yet check out my argument! check the stats and see if I am rifght or wrong ion this one!
