Alastair Cook has spent more time at the crease in this series than any batsman has ever done. During the course of his latest epic, he broke a record previously held by Shiv Chanderpaul, an elfish lefty who once defied the might of India for about three years.

Cook at the crease for a total of 2,171 minutes, a new world record for a five-Test series, beating Shivnarine Chanderpaul's 2,057 for the West Indies against India in 2002.

Here is another record.....

Highest average in a five-Test series: ( Shiv #2) Chanderpaul's series average of 140.50 against India in 2002 is second only to Don Bradman's (201.50, 178.75) for the highest average in a five-Test Series

True...but we have to adapt with technology and give cook his dues. Well the Shivster had di record for 8 years and this could be the motivator for him to dig in for the long haul..
