Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

Somerset were cruising towards victory, reaching 105-3, chasing a paltry 113 to win against defending champions Guyana at a run a ball. And then, what a collapse to be all out for 111 off the last ball of the match! Guyana captain Ramnaresh Sarwan used his bowlers well in the last few overs, choking the Somerset batsmen, and he placed his fielders well, cutting off the singles. The Somerset batsmen felt the pressure, took risky singles, and were there were four run outs as the Guyana fielding stood up to the pressure.

This was an unlikely win, because Guyana's total was far from impressive, as only Sarwan with 59 provided any resistance agaisnt the Somerset bowlers. And when Nick Compton and Urul Suppiah put on a 40-odd run fourth-wicket partnership, the match looked done and dusted. but the Somerset batsmen were just trying to get their runs in singles, without trying to hit boundaries. As commentator Curtly Ambrose said, if they lost a couple of wickets, it could be trouble. And it was just as the great man predicted!

Somerset spectacular collapse to Guyana

Somerset slipped to a one-run defeat to Guyana after losing seven wickets for six runs in the Caribbean T20 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Chasing 113 for victory, Somerset appeared on course but after losing the wicket of Arul Suppiah on 105 for four with eight runs required from 2.5 overs, they then conspired to produce a spectacular collapse in Antigua.
