1919 was a good year. it had a big dock-workers strike in Port of Spain.... a sort of precursor to 1937, the 1946 Moyne commission, Erc Williams in 1956, independence and even more labour strife and undemocratic legislation with the Industial Stabilisastion Act in 1965...from Williams himself, the "FATHER OF INDEPENDENCE'

there was 'activity' all over the westindies and BG which is why the Brits sent out their Moyne Commission.....

ansah - 4...in the first ever tess series to be played in the westindies in 1929-30 against England.

the captaisn were: Barbados E L G Hoad, Trinidad Nelson Betancourt, British Guiana M P Fernandes, Jamaica R K Nunes.

as their names suggest there were all westindians of white descent. in those days to the financial arrangements were diferent than they are today and this fact played no small part in the having different captains in ach territory.

this fact also resulted in lop-sided selection which saw a majority of territorial players for each island make-up the greater body of players for each tess match

thats right 9 days of test cricket which finished only because the British had to ketch a boat fuh England. they were playing to a finish.

england made 849..westindies made 286 but the Brits went back to bat anyway and made 272 for 9 dec...westindies then batted out to 408 for 5 when the game was called
