True, WI cricket is currently mediocre, but it won't be that way forever.
And ... 5 websites are too much? You must be kidding. I haven't spent much time on any other website except cc.com, but some of the sites seem to have rather narrow interests - and there's nothing wrong with that.
Anyway, I wish BallOil's effort here all success. Time will tell if this site will be a good alternative to cc.com, or supplemental to it. Cc.com seems to attract all the fair-weather big-mouth fans - people who are the greatest WI supporters when the team, or their favorite player, does well, but the biggest cry-babies when WI does badly.
I believe a site for the diehard WI supporter will have a meaningful purpose ...

Norm,
Thanks for generosity. BTW,thanks for joining, please make yourself at home. I'm open to feedback so please don't hold back. This site could fill the gap for the diehard WI supporters. We are still in the early stage so we can control the direction ...

In your lifetime Norm do you see the West Indies among the top 3 teams in either test or onedayers ?
West Indies has been a mediocre team the past 15 years. In 2010 they won zero tests and it looks like they will struggle to win tests for decades to come.
The reality is the region has stopped producing world class cricketers.

WI is on the rise right now, with Barath, Darren Bravo, Roach and Russell adding a lot of strength to the team. Chanders and Nash may have a couple more years to go. Gayle and Sars, however, will have to steady the ship when needed. In your lifetime Norm do you see the West Indies among the top 3 teams in either test or onedayers ?
Guyana has some hopefuls that can make the difference for WI tho. Bishoo, Bess and Narsingh are all capable of big things.
So - WI will be in the top 3 in 3 years, IMO.

I like your optimism Norm! but 7 years ago you could have made the same comment, "wi is on the rise now"Norm wrote:WI is on the rise right now, with Barath, Darren Bravo, Roach and Russell adding a lot of strength to the team. back then you had a young gayle, sarwan, edwards. and a year or two later you had a young taylor and ramdin join the team.
lots of promising cricketers have joined the west indies team in the past 7 years, yet the team continues to struggle to win test matches.
barath, darren bravo, russel, etc all look promising just like gayle, sarwan, edwards, taylor, ramdin, etc all looked promising.
until the west indies team can field at least 6 world class players it will continue to be mediocre.
strike narsingh. he is done. bishoo looks promising. but will he be able to deliver at the test level ?Guyana has some hopefuls that can make the difference for WI tho. Bishoo, Bess and Narsingh are all capable of big things.
you are a diehard wi fan norm, but you are clearly engaging in wishful thinking predicting that the wi will be in the top 3 in 3 years. So - WI will be in the top 3 in 3 years, IMO.
i say the west indies will be lucky to win 3 tests in the next 3 years.

Prince,
WI is a world-beater when it has world-class bowlers. Since Walsh and Amby faded WI could not find a world-beating bowling combination. It has always been a struggle to take wickets, or a single bowler performing.
Now WI has Roach and Benn. IMO opinion Russell will be the bowler to really take WI forward, in tandem with Roach. The quicker WI gets Russell back into the team, the better.
Thus, it was not Gayle or the other batsmen that would have ever made WI world-beaters again, just as Sobers and Kanhai couldn't after Hall and Griffith faded. Batsmen don't win Test matches (They draw or save them). Bowlers do.

When we had a battery of the fastest bowlers in the world , it gave our batsmen confidence , because these same bowlers bowled to them in the Nets , so that when they played against other Pacers , they were at ease in playing their shots with supreme confidence . Good Spinners like Valentine , Ramadhin , and Gibbs , so gave them confidence to face Spinners from other Countries .
