Was sending Bishoo in last night as nightwatchman to face one ball another cock-up by the WI brains trust? If they were going to use a nightwatchman shouldn't it have been Rampaul whose performances with the bat have been good this season?
That decision could end up gifting India a fourth wicket pretty early on this morning.
Rain delays play so we will have to wait a little longer to discover the answer.

yeah, Bish was the nightwatchman... Any of the tailenders could hold their own to see out the last ball of the day. It depends how Bisho plays today but he is decent with the bat. He can't do any worst than the three that gone already. Who knows we might get a 50 from himhowzdat wrote:Was sending Bishoo in last night as nightwatchman to face one ball another cock-up by the WI brains trust? The covers are coming off. Here's a gallery from cricinfo covering the history of test cricket:

But wouldn't you rather have two batsmen starting things off this morning, rather than give the indians the opportunity to get their tails up by taking a fourth wicket? I agree that Bishoo is a fighter but sending him in last night indicates that there was/is nervousness in the Wi camp.
In these scenarios the batting side always hopes, as you said, that the nightwatchman sticks around and scores a few so giving the batsman at the other end time to play himself in. On the other hand if I were the Indian team I would go hard at Sarwan because if he departs early it would ba a psychological hammer blow against the WI. We will see.

As Sir G. Boycott was heard to say recently, "You never send out a nightwatchman opening pair, do you?"BallOil wrote:I hear ya...I never really like a nightwatchman while you have better batters sitting on their behinds. They need to go out and bat whenever the time comes..

I was just gonna say that Sarwan looks so open and then he gets beaten by a beauty from Kumar. With the overcast conditions this is gonna be extra tough. These batsmen have to show their class. Every run closer to the 201 they get will be a real relief.

Sars wobbling... Like the bhai took a few shots before the crease?13.6 Sharma to Sarwan, FOUR, edged but safe. Sarwan is off to a wobbly start to the day. Not a very good shot, this one was short too and wide enough outside off for him to let it go, as it rose disconcertingly. Sarwan chose to cut, the ball kept getting big on him and he ended up edge-steering it without conviction over the third slip's head.
