Can't help thinking that the stubborness of both parties is making Windies cricket suffer in the long run. The Board are acting like a bunch of dictators who take it upon themselves to punish anybody who doesn't fall in line with their demands. And as far as i'm concerned Gayle has no intention of representing the Windies again, unless it's on his terms. Isn't it the ruling to play for your region to qualify for selection during the West Indies home fixtures. Just out of curiousity, when was the last time Chris Gayle has actually played for Jamaica?...The gloves went off from the moment Gayle refused to sign a retainer contract and chose instead to play cricket for the highest bidder. I'm not criticising him for doing that, but what annoys me is that he's fooling the majority of the public by manipulating the Board's unreasonable behaviour in making him look like the victim here. It's a clever move, because he makes good money by playing for hire, yet plays the martyr and still comes out of it looking like the peoples champion.

What was your agenda eh?cuffman wrote:The same people that wudda shower me with cuss a few years ago for arguing the inclusion of Gayle in ALL formats ahead of Ganga for WI, are now his most devout groupies. What a world we live in!
But hey, I guess everyone has his agenda eh - noble or otherwise!

I think Gayle wants to play for WI when he is available and what is wrong with that? It is WICB job to select the best team at all times on MERIT.. When was the last time WICB selected a full strength team?
Do you know that the WI players have to wait for months or even years to get paid from the WICB?

FYI --Chris last match for Jamaica was on 22 Oct 2010 West Indies Cricket Board Cup 2010/11 Jamaica v Barbados Sabina Park, Kingston. He then went on tour to SL where he made that mammoth 333 and then on to the WC.... He is in the Jamaica 2011 squad for the Super50.

BallOil,
First off thank you for the welcome. It makes a refreshing change to go on a forum and address different opinions without it resorting to playground insults. With that being said, i'll try and reply to your valid points...
There's nothing wrong with Gayle wanting to play when he's available, but isn't the status-quo to play some matches for your region, that makes you eligible for selection. Being a Professional Cricketer in the Caribbean, he must know this, but chose not to play last season. What i believe got up the Board's noses is when they contacted him, he said he was unavailable through injury, the next minute he's in India playing IPL cricket.
In hindsight you're absolutely right about a player being chosen on merit, but it appears to me that alot of the players are not meeting certain requirements, whether it's a fitness issue or disciplined curfews, who knows?...i'm no fan of the WICB by any stretch of the imagination, but unless changes are made there, the stark reality is that they're in charge of Cricket in the West Indies and what they say, goes.
Gayle is a tremendous player, but no man is bigger than the team. Great players have come and gone and were established through playing cricket for the West Indies. Times have changed now and with such an obsene amount of money being offered to players these days, it's become more of a issue in the Caribbean because the IPL so happens to clash with the home season in the West Indies.
As far as Gayle being selected in the Super50, well as long as it's not scheduled with a big-money offer for hire, i'm sure he will be there. I guess i don't like the idea of Gayle swaggering around as though he has the Board to ransom and thinks he's doing the whole of the Caribbean a favour by even showing up and playing for the West Indies.
He's played some memorable innings, but i don't recall him single-handidly winning any test-matches on his own for the West Indies. Pro-Gayle fans are getting on like the West Indies will fall apart without him, well i've got a question for you, if his presence is of such great importance, then since his debut over a decade ago, has our position in the test and ODI rankings changed that drastically?...

Cricket is a team sport and same can be argue about the Great Brian Lara in term of rankings. Actually do you know Lara has a RECORD for the most losses in Test cricket?Silvamaine wrote:Re: Gayle refuses to apologize – JCA

Silvamaine, please see my response below you comments...
Where did you get your story from regarding Gayle's injury? Here is Gayle's interview...listen to him carefully and his written statement...There's nothing wrong with Gayle wanting to play when he's available, but isn't the status-quo to play some matches for your region, that makes you eligible for selection. Who is judging the players are not fit? Where are the fitness reports? What requirements the players didn't meet? what happened to Taylor, Fidel, Benn, Sarwan, Ramdin, et al?In hindsight you're absolutely right about a player being chosen on merit, but it appears to me that alot of the players are not meeting certain requirements, whether it's a fitness issue or disciplined curfews, who knows?...i'm no fan of the WICB by any stretch of the imagination, but unless changes are made there, the stark reality is that they're in charge of Cricket in the West Indies and what they say, goes.
Same goes for Gibson..Gayle is a proven player with 40+ average in both Test and ODI. Not to mentioned his T20s exploits on the world stage. What can Gibson teach the likes of Gayle, Chanderpaul, Sarwan, etc all better players than he can ever be. So why sacrificing the seniors for a mediocre club bowling coach in Gibson? Why discard proven player for a failed cricketer and a clueless coach without any track record? A coach tactics that involves bullying and intimation? BTW, I'm not pulling this from thin air but from a credible source, a player.Gayle is a tremendous player, but no man is bigger than the team. What is wrong with being a bat for hire? the WI players abandoned West Indies for Packers, no? Gayle is doing what anyone else in his shoes would do..MAXIMIZE his INCOME. Do you think WICB will pay Gayle a pension eh? Its hard for the players to even get pay on time...As far as Gayle being selected in the Super50, well as long as it's not scheduled with a big-money offer for hire, i'm sure he will be there. Mek me answer some of these questions
.
Benn been dropped because he can't behave himself and Bishoo has risen up anyway, Fatwan love to eat him food too much which is why he was having fitness problems, despite that Gibbo gave him another chance AND HE FAILED in both the Pak and India series, it's that simple, and lastly Ramdin wasn't dropped because of "fitness" he was dropped because he was playing crap,
DID YOU SEE THEM AT THE LAST WORLD CUP? WHAT HAPPENED AGAINST PAKISTAN? and yet fans like you who have pure blindfaith will moan about us losing again if the same wukless players came back into the team, Gibbo is an ESTABLISHED COACH who England rated very highly, can Gayle lead a team? where was his leadership when South Africa came to the caribbean in 2010 and nearly whitewash us? where was his leadership when we lost every ODI in Australia and also the Test series?
you have a short memory it seems, Dyson said he he couldn't even get the players to warm up!!..and you think Gibbo installing some rules is a bad thing? you mussa mad!!,

Erm well firstly Fidel just come back from a back injury that kept him out for nearly a year, and that's a FACT, Taylor broke down in Australia in 2010, rushed back when Gibbo first took charge and then he broke down again in the ODI series against South Africa, then he was out for another spell and came back in time for the last four day regional competition, and guess what? HE BROKE DOWN AGAIN, then the last i hear he was in the IPL, but IPL is four overs per game, it's not Test cricket,BallOil wrote: Who is judging the players are not fit? WHAT HAS THOSE "SENIORS" WON US IN THE LAST 15 YEARS?Same goes for Gibson..Gayle is a proven player with 40+ average in both Test and ODI. Not to mentioned his T20s exploits on the world stage. The man is a GREADY SKUNT who cares about the IPL more than his country, it's that simple but his "fans" don't seem to get it, they just see him aiming shots at the WICB and think he's got WI's best interest at heart, if he really did HE WOULD WANT TO PLAY FOR THE TEAM, but no, a simple apology is far to much for "king Gayle"...mek him gwan!!, Brathwaite is ready to step in and he a much better Test career than Gayle, i'm certain of that. What is wrong with being a bat for hire? the WI players abandoned West Indies for Packers, no?
