In his first knock on Sri Lankan soil Brendan Nash topscored with a patient 62, which came off 107 balls and included seven boundaries. He added 81 for the fourth wicket with fellow left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul, who made 33…
After the day’s play Nash said that he was pleased with the way the bowlers responded after the batsmen failed.
“Their top four batsmen came out and played their shots, but our bowlers were able to get three of them and that brought us right back into the match.
Their plan was obviously to come hard at us in the final session, but we bowled well and bowled fast and got wickets which we deserved,” the West Indies Vice Captain said.
“There is a lot of time left in the match. We want to see how we can make some more inroads into their batting and then try to make better use when we get a second chance to bat.
“It is a good pitch and a fast outfield but we did not quite get going today. Shiv and myself batted well together and Barath also showed signs that was going to hang in there. Russell also played well in his first match for the West Indies, but overall we did not do as well as we should have. We have the second innings to get it right.”
On his knock, Nash noted: “I was a little scratchy at the start but I was happy I spent some much-needed time at the crease and got used to the conditions here in Sri Lanka. I wanted to go on and get a bigger score for the team. The time I spent in the middle should serve me well in the Test matches. We have to learn from today and make sure we don’t make similar mistakes in the Test matches…”

And he's doing it again, with 60 not out in the third Test at stumps....

he is a mediocrity and the sooner he is gone the better. but at least he came out firing las'night! thats was good of hin and the proper approach in the easy conditions with unfocused Lanka bowling.
shive is the man who really got me pissed las'night! shive patted that 'food' bowing and allowed it the chance to come back to get him and Bravo when he shud have beaten into subnission earlier
man wats the use of all shives experience? he is a worse time waster than ever before.

this is no bad patch for shive. that is how he is. the problem may be that he is gettng older and spending that long a time at the crease will no longer ease into tons. he will get tired and get out now rather than going on and on and on...
it is time to make better use of the the 2, 3 hours he spends out there to beat some bowling and maximise, rather than just 'chooking' ah fifty or less. that is a waste of time

and shive cyan beat bowling. he has proven that beyond any doubt at all.
it is time for him to segue into that type of form and leave the 'chooking,' safety first, 'average conscious' waste of time batting behind. that is serving less and less of a good purpose for the westindies.

What about occupation of the crease..? After all this is test cricket.. Shiv came in the 33rd overs and went in the 78th. in that period, Shiv faced 145 balls (24.1 overs) from 45 overs... If Shiv didn't hold an end West Indies would have collapsed already ..right?
