The greatest chooka the game of cricket has ever seen did what he does best last night. He chooked his way to his 55th test fifty.

HISTORY

In the history of test cricket only 4 batsmen have scored more test fifties than Chooka-paul:

MOST TEST FIFTIES
63...Border(1)

59...Tendulkar(2)

59...Dravid(2)

56...Ponting(4)

55...Chooka-paul(5)

Give praise to chooka-paul for another chooking display in the 3rd test against Sri Lanka.

Chooka-paul scored 54 runs off 145 balls---a poor strike rate of 37.24

CHOOKA-PAUL'S WAS DISMISSED CHOOKING
Mendis to Chanderpaul, OUT, Super catch from that wonderful slip fielder Mahela Jayawardene. It was a lovely googly that turned and jumped ... Chanders was fatally attracted to it and followed the ball and ended up opening the bat-face and guiding it low but quickly to the left of Mahela who so quickly flung himself to catch the ball inches off the turf with his outstretched left hand. And he roars. He had dropped a simpler chance offered by Bravo yesterday. Redemption time.

S Chanderpaul c DPMD Jayawardene b Mendis 54 (145b 3x4 0x6) SR: 37.24

Oh well! Chooka-paul will never score a test hundred against Sri Lanka.

to be honest las' night was the first tme I got 'relly' fed up with chanderpaul. I was so pissed with him I stopped looking when he faced the bowling.

this was a perfect chamce to blast the Lankan bowling into submission. Lankan bowling was not good, the batting conditions super and there was shive not taking the opportunity to blast them into submission.

the more shive patted the bowling the more he gave it the opportunity to live and come back again. at least skansh tried and outscored shive powerfully. imagine that eh!

if that was lara or viv or richardson, or haynes or greenidge they would have beaten that bowling so bad sangy would have been at his wits end trying to close holse as more were opened up.

chanderpaul can be ridiculously counterproductive and last night he was! it was time for westindies to establish some domination over that lanka attack but they allowed it to stay in the game and then to come out on top.

it is not so much the skills of westindies batting that is the problem but its nature and quality. westindies have a docile batting line-up for the most part that cannot establish supremacy on any bowling attack when the opportunity arises. it is a 'chooking' and generaly stupid line-up, like big Bravo has become for the most part now.

if big bravo continues his batting slide into ignominy he will be dropped soon. that would balance the side wonderfully with sammy in it for sure

Pandit...Shiv defintely struggle with form...

However, another fifty in the record books..and that is good company for Shiv in the top 5.

Yes, I think we have to give up on that ton from Shiv in Sri Lanka.

How about these other stats from Shivisgreat.com
SCORES OVER 50: Shiv #2. In WI test history, Lara(82) has the most scores over fifty. Shiv is #2 with 77 scores over fifty.
TEST FIFTIES: Shiv #1. Shiv (55) has scored more test fifties than any other WI batsmen.
TEST FIFTIES: Shiv is only the 5th batsman in test history to score 50 fifties

wen he ready is not good enuff! he must be flexible enuff as a top professional to play that kind of game that is needed at the moment!

I looked at shive las' niteas carefully as I could to see if anything is wrong with him, if he is not on form and all that.

I saw nutten at all wrong with shive. he simply batted like he almost always does. that is , his chosen style. that is what he chose to do this innings regardless of the conditions.

I got spoiled by no one. Oz in particualr took westindies style and started a winning spree that has only just ended after many years of success. every team now bats like the wind if at all possible to force a result. rare is the innings in which India bats when they do not score 300 per day..especially the rirst day.

they learned that from the Oz and westindies. for a while here every test match used to have a result..one side or the other winning, because of the general speed of the batting in recent years. that the eway to go. consistent batting like chanderpaul simply does not cut it anymore save in circumstance when it is necessary to bat like that.

all shive has to do is when he can score plenty and quickly do so please. otherwise when will he do eo..when the bowling is on top?

cant you guys see the sitaution?

Shives batting this innings was pure silliness and simply wont cut it. it is of no good sevice to anyone and any purpose save shives averages!

Shiv Chooka-paul has done himself a great disservice with his ultra defensive approach to batting in the current test series.

THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE!

Shiv's strike rate in the current test series has been in the 30s

We all know Shiv can bat---but his mindset in this series seems to be one in which he is prepared to wear bowlers down.

Such a mindset will work against fast bowlers, but never against spinners.

CHOOKA-PAUL NEEDS TO CHANGE HIS ULTRA DEFENSIVE MINDSET!

Panditji...I still think Shiv is feeling his way around...The form and/or confidence is not there ... Maybe he should try something next innings if he gets a chance and start beat ball from ball one
