lemme say this right now.
cricket captains are only as good or great as their bowlers.
show me a great captain and i'll show you a team with great bowlers.
show me a good captain and i'll show you a team with good bowlers.
show me a poor captain and i'll show you a team with poor bowlers.
re: australia
ricky ponting was a great captain when his team had great bowlers like mcgrath and warne.
today ricky ponting is just an ordinary captain because his team has ordinary bowlers.
re: west indies
the west indies has not produced a world class bowler since amby and walshy retired.
as such all wi captains the past 12 years have been ordinary or downright mediocre.
once again, captains are only as good as the bowlers in their team.
great captains have great bowlers
poor captains have poor bowlers.

in 1975/76 lloyd's team received a shellacking by the aussies. the wi lost that series 5-1.BallOil wrote:So Lloyd a great captain because he had great bowlers? If so, then it didn't 't really matter who was the captain during that time they would have the same success right?
there was nothing special about lloyd's captaincy.
lloyd became a great captain because of the great 4 prong wi attack.
roberts, holding, garner, croft
marshall, amby, walsh, etc followed.
a blind man could have captained the west indies when they had great bowlers like roberts, holding, croft and garner and won.
