According to Guardian Media, it will cost the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) US$1M to host two English clubs for the upcoming regional T20 cricket series. A source close to the WICB said the board will be forking out close to US$1M in order to have Hampshire and Somerset, the English T20 champions play in the regional tournament. This figure will include their participation fees, as well as travel in business class and accommodation.

I mentioned the fact in one of the 3 Cricket Forums that I write on , that it would have been better if rather than bringing these two Teams from England , the WICB had extended the duration of the Regional Tournament . Why ?? because our Players at the International Level are part Time Players , who play less Cricket than their Counterparts , on Teams ranked above our Team .

My perspective is that when in the 1980's OUR PLAYERS WERE BANNED FROM PLAYING

CRICKET IN ENGLAND , THAT WAS A VERY COLD CALCULATED MOVE BY ENGLAND , THE ECB

KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS DOING AND THE REPERCUSSIONS OF WHAT IT DID ,WOULD HAVE

IN THIS REGION .

Sadly the WICB DID NOT AND STILL HAS NOT GRASPED THE SIGNIFICANCE OF WHAT THE ECB

DID . the END RESULT OF THIS SHORTSIGHTEDNESS HAS RESULTED IN THE DOWNWARD

SPIRALING OF THE COMPETIVENESS OF OUR PLAYERS , AND THE STANDARD OF CRICKET IN

THE REGION .

This is why Iam opposed to the idea of bringing Foreign Teams to participate in our Regional Tournaments , Let me be very clear , I have absolutely on objection to International matches . where Countries are playing against each other .

At this juncture again I must state that the main problem with Cricket in the Region , is the Fact that our Players dont play enough Cricket , Stanford & his Cricket Board proved that fact .
Introducing two English Teams to play in our Regional Tournament cuts back the Playing time of our Regional Cricketers , and that in my opinion is unhelpful to our Players and Cricket in the Region .

Point, Why do you think that the WICB is happy to take a $1million loss for the English teams? What will they gain from this move? Looks like the WICB developing the British league now..

The board could use this same money for a month long camp in preparation for the World Cup..

One would have thought that as you have suggested the WICB would have saved that money to prepare our Players probably . Particularly when the truth is that : PROPER PREPARATION DEFINITELY PREVENTS PISS POOR PERFORMANCES .

Point...

see here Hunte: WICB investing to exploit global commercial opportunities

funny the WICB released the news after the Guardian article... Why didn't WICB release this info on its own?
Cognizant of the need to ensure that players are able to secure their livelihoods during their relatively short playing careers, Dr. Hunte said the Board of Directors of the WICB is committed to ensuring that every effort is made to allow them to maximise their earning capacity.
Really to the quote above? The winner takes home 25K USD...divide that between 14 players and management. Yet, they see it fitting to spend 1million on two clubs for 8 games. Just about 125K USD per game. I wonder if the WICB is paying Canada to participate as well
