Apart from his performances thus far which are absolutely phenomenal for a blok new to the scene, I'm very happy that we now have a spinner of international quality in the Caribbean to use as a yardstick for judging the performances of other spinners.

For a while persons have been saying that our spinners' success at the FC level has more to do with the poor quality of batsmanship of the batsmen than their own abilities to get wickets through top quality bowling.

Now that we have a guy of definite international quality that has learnt and developed his trade in (so called) 'dung heap', this should auger well for other spinners in the region. Now I think a little more confidence will (and ought to be) reposed in their ability.

Well done Bishoo! :D

BTW: The not-so-popular Martin has also performed creditably. 8-)

What is very encouraging is Bishoo has made an immediate impact in International cricket---he has taken wickets in 20/20, one dayers and now tests.

Devindra Bishoo is the real deal!!!!

RE: BISHOO'S FIRST CLASS BOWLING STATS

Check this out:
In 21 First class matches Bishoo 86 wickets---that's 4.09 wkts per match---at an average of 27.31
Any bowler who averages 4.0+ wkts per match at the First class level will succeed at the International level.

Go and check the first class bowling performances of other WI bowlers-----you'll understand why most have been mediocre at the test level.

HOW MANY CURRENT BOWLERS IN THE CARIBBEAN(SPINNERS & QUICKS) AVERAGE 4+ wkts IN FIRST CLASS ?

Go check Bishoo's Guyanese teammate Veerasammy Permaul's stats and tell me what you think. While you at it, check Kavesh Kantasingh, Gary Mathurin and Carlos Brathwaite then tell me what you think of them all. That's just a few from the talent pool waiting for their chance. 8-)

Remember what I said:

A bowler who averages 4.0+ wkts per match at the first class level will likely succeed at the International level.

In 21 first class matches Bishoo has taken 86 wickets---that's 4.09 wkts per match in first class. So Bishoo will likely be a success in International cricket.

RE: VEERASAMMY PERMAUL

Let's check his bowling stats:
In 32 First Class matches Veerasammy has taken 101 wickets---that 3.15 wkt per match at an average of 25.86
Veerasammy does not satisfy the minimum 4.0 wkts per match requirement.

Now cuffy tell me about the wkts per match stats of the other bowlers you mentioned.

REMEMBER THE REQUIREMENT OR GUAGE IS 4.0 WKTS PER MATCH.

And the amazing thing is Bishoo is just getting started!!.. can you imagine what he will be doing in a year or so? imo he will be the best spinner in the world very soon!!..i always wondered whether we'd ever have a spinner in the Murali and Warne class!!.. lets hope that Bishoo is the one!!,

Btw Kantasingh's figures are stunning at FC level and i believe he might be the next spinner to come through for us!!.. him and Bishoo would be devastating man!! :D .

Bishoo will need a spin partner ...like Ramadhin and Valentine

Who are the contenders to support Bishoo?

Well, according to Black Prince's lofty standards of an average of 4 wickets per match at the FC to have any hope of performing at the international level, then no...we don't have anyone to help out Bishoo. The way this man waving around this 4 wkts thing is actually comical...like gleeful little lad who just got his favourite lollypop.

According to Balck Prince the #2 and #9 ranked bowlers in the world shouldn't have been given much consideration at all at the FC level with their paltry averages of 2.78 and 3.31 wkts/match respectively i.e. Greame Swann and Daniel Vettori.

He might want to assert that what we have here is a 'dung-heap' competition and so our spinners' efforts might somehow count for less, but may I remind him that the England A team captain - after his recent participation here in our just concluded FC competition - doesn't agree with him. ;)

But if we were to look more realistically at things, I'd say his partners could be:

1) Amir Khan (although I doubt they'll go for another leggie)
2) Veerasammy Permaul (left-arm orthodox)
3) Kavesh Kantasingh (left-arm orthodox)
4) Magnum Nanan (left-arm orthodox)
5) Gary Mathurin (left-arm orthodox)
6) Shane Shillingford (right-arm off-break)
7) Sulieman Benn (left-arm orthodox)
8) Ryan Austin (right-arm off-break)
9) Odean Brown (leggie)
10) Nkrumah Bonner (leggie)

Any others?

Black Prince, you wanted me to post the average number of wickets per match for the others I mentioned, here are two of them:
* Kavesh Kantasingh 3.58
* Gary Mathurin 3.63

I wonder what is .58 and .63 of a wicket? :? Must it be 4+ Black Prince? Can't it approximate 4?

3.58 and 3.63 is 4 to my way of calculation relative to bowlers.

if its .50 and less the bowlers loses!

if its .51 and up its 1 to the bowler...so each of those are 4 averages and satisfy BPs stringent 4.0 standard

Pakistan needs 219 for victory

Pakistan 80/3

Bishoo: 10-4-19-0

BISHOO IS YET TO GET A WICKET

He must have been tired after his 24(67 balls) in the WI 2nd innings.

Hopefully a rested Bishoo will strike gold tomorrow---day 4.

Check out the stats of all great bowlers----they average 4.0 wkts per match.

A 4.0 wkts per match at the First Class level is a good indicator of a bowler having remarkable sucess at the International level.

Kanta and Mathurin are close to 4.0 wkts per match---but no cigar.
