Shiv Chanderpaul will be playing in his 131st test match against Pakistan in the 2nd test at Warner Park.

Shiv's current test average is 49.06; Shiv's first class average is 54.28

Clearly Shiv has some work to do with regards to bringing his test average(49.06) in line with his first class average(54.28).

Now that he has been discarded in onedayers, replaced by inferior batsmen(Marlon Samuels, Kirk Edwards, Devon Smith), Shiv has all the time to focus on raising his test average to 50+

In the 1st test at Providence Shiv(27 and 36*) raised his test average from 48.98 to 49.06

LET'S SEE WHAT SHIV DOES WITH HIS 49.06 AVERAGE IN THE 2ND TEST.

By the way, Shiv needs a score of 174 Not Out in his next innings to raise his average from 49.06 to 50.00

wat possible scenario cud give shive the opportunity to score 174 not out at Warner Park?

if westindies won the toss and batted, and conditions are what they usually are at dat venue it will be difficult for shive to get the chance to score so many.

with KB now in the side the openers cud score well. and if there is a solid opening stand lil Bravo cud make his signature.

simmons also loves Warner Park and if he gets going there look out. there cud be too many runs on the boards and to much time gone before shive gets a chance.

if the conditions turn out to be not so easy, at least early, and westindies lose a couple of wickets and lets say are about 110, 130 for 3 by the time shive gets in then we have a scenario for 174 no

also if Pak wins the toss and scores well... 350-400+.... dat cud put pressure on westindies a bit cause some early wickets and the need for a rear-guard in which shive wud be right at home.

so it would be easier if westindies lost the toss and had to come from behind. if we won the toss and batted we wud have to lose a couple -3 wikets for a base of at least a 100+. dat shive cud build on for the next day and a half

I don't know if Shiv can do it in this match but a couple not outs should keep him on target. With the Indians coming next month, Shiv will have a chance to get there since he likes the Indian bowling best.

A year ago South Africa batting first at Warner Park scored 543-6 declared.

In reply the West Indies were 106-2 when Shiv walked to the wicket.

There is why others dont think so highly of Shiv even if he average is 50. In the last match his main concern was a not out and did not shield the lower order. We may have gotten more runs that way. And when he finally retires do you say he was a 'great' batsman or more likely 'dogged'. Shiv has more often than not put his avarage ahead of team sucess. Sorry to so harsh here but its the truth.

The reality is that 48 runs partnership between Shiv and Bishoo played a pivotal role in WI's victory.


RE: SHIV BEING GREAT

Even if he ends his career averaging 50+ he will be perceived as just a very good batsman.

Anyway, 10,000 test runs and a 50+ test average----that's an outstanding test career.

The big team news from the West Indies camp is that Shiv Chanderpaul has a sore shoulder and is not playing. Marlon Samuels replaces him. Samuels had a epic struggle in the ODIs, he just couldn't score against spin. Big challenge ahead of him.

Looks like Coach Gibson had Shiv has been lifting too much weight.

Shiv must be genuinely injured---he loves this Warner Park wicket---he scored 97* against India and 166 against South Africa--dont think he would pull out easily.
