With an eye to players who are coming through the ranks I thought that I might kick off this topic with a list of squad members participating in the West Indies Cricket Board’s Under-19 Championship, which begins on Monday 18th July.
TEAMS
Barbados: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Anthony Alleyne, Neil Browne, Jonathan Drakes, Justin Greaves, Chaim Holder, Shai Hope, Jerome Jones, Kyle Mayers, Shane Parris, Ravindra Persaud, Mario Rampersaud, Amir Thomas, Chad Williams

Guyana: Ronsford Beaton (captain), Kwame Crosse, Kevon Boodie, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Dominique Rikhi, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Linden Austin, Amir Khan, Anthony Adams, Ricardo Adams, Clinton Pestano, Lloydel Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Joemal LaFleur

Jamaica: Donovan Nelson (captain), John Campbell, Ramon Senior, James McDonald, Chrishna Graham, Bryan Gayle, Tajay Edwards, Oshane Walters, Marquino Mindley, Rovmon Powell, Teswayne Creary, Aldaine Thomas, Fabian Allen, Ragni Francis

Leeward Islands: Rahkeem Cornwall (captain), Nino Henry, Elijah Peters, Wasim Mintos, Shaquille Martina, Chavil Archibald, Dymon Parris, Duan Webbe, Akeem Saunders, Larry Audain, Tristan Hanley, Daniel Doram, Raymel Adams, Cleon Reece

Trinidad and Tobago: Steven Katwaroo (captain), Savion Lara, Kieron Joseph, Derone Davis, Duane Cockburn, Isian Rajah, Christian Herrera, Philton Williams, Rajiv Maraj, Jovan Ali, Idrees Mohammed, Stephen Sooklal, Akeal Hosein, Emmanuel Left

Windward Islands: Kavem Hodge (captain), Sunil Ambris, Emmanuel Peter, Ray Jordan, Shaquille Browne, Terron Simon, Dwight Thomas, Bronte Bess, Jamaal James, Awen Edward, Larry Edward, Preston McSween, Keon George, Hollis Blair
With few exceptions, namely Brathwaite of Barbados and Campbell of Jamaica, the main reason why I have highlighted some names is because they would be recognisable to most followers of WI cricket - maybe contributors to this site can assist to fill in the gaps insofar as individual cricketing pedigree and the like is concerned??? And no doubt much more will be learned about the players over the coming years.

Good luck to all of them as the tournament unfolds - may the best team win :D

Some very good performances on the first day to take note of

16 year old left arm spinner Larry Edward took a 5fer for Winwards against Bim including getting Brathwaite out,

16 year old pacer Justin Greaves got himself a 6fer for Bim

16 year old batsman Chandapaul Hemraj is on 71 not out on his debut for Guyana u19s, big things are expected of this kid apparently,

Jamaica have also put up a very good score of 230 too with Teshwayne Creary on 73 not out

I like these competitions as it gives us a chance to analyze the stars of the future, in reality Bim should walk the whole contest as they have a damn TEST PLAYER (Brathwaite) in their batting line-up and their pace attack has two of the pacers who brushed aside Australia u19s the other day, they also have Alleyne in their top order who plays for Somerset in England,

But Guyana have certainly stood up and in Amir Khan they have the best spinner in the competition imo, and last year he ran through top orders like it was nothing, plus Hemraj is batting like a young Chanders right now!! :D , but the kid to keep an eye on is that Larry Edward for Winwards, he came to my attention late last year when at just 15 he took a 5fer for the senior St Vincent team on his debut, that spell effectively won them the game.

I've never denied that Chanders is a legend for WI, the way he carried us for so long was a testament to the mans vast ability, but those standards were sadly lacking over the past year, and when that's the case people are gonna question his selection, but in the first Test against Pak i saw Shiv's old form had returned which is why i stopped calling for him to be dropped, i only want whats best for WI, i don't hold no personal grudges against any player  .

Great idea BallOil. I see that someone created another topic on the forum related the above mentioned tournament. We are going to have to be disciplined so as to avoid visitors having to look in two places when looking to keep updated on our conversations about the players and the tournament OR maybe the forum admin can look into this and merge the two topics????

Lie you ah tell!!.. BEFORE that series i was sure he was gonna get dropped because of his shambolic form over the past year and also the fact that he cussed off the manager and selectors, but when he was picked i said the least i expect from him was a lickle 50 BUT THAT DIDN'T MATERIALIZE!!, therefore i had every right to ask more questions about his place in the team!! .
