GCB sends condolence message on passing of Umpire Clyde Duncan
THE embattled Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) through its president and director of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Chetram Singh yesterday issued a condolence message on the passing of international umpire Clyde Duncan.
Below is the full text of the GCB’s message:
The President and Executives of the Guyana Cricket Board have learnt with great sadness of the passing of Guyanese international umpire, Mr Clyde Duncan.
Duncan has given good and loyal service to the game of cricket over a number of years and, by the quality of his work, has earned the respect of players and spectators at the local, national, regional and international levels.
Named after one of the members of that great 3W’s formation Clyde Walcott, Clyde Duncan found in umpiring, the opportunity to fully express his passion for cricket.
In those years, Umpire Duncan acquired vast experience which he, in turn, was always willing to share as a respected member of the Guyana Umpires Council and the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association.
He also did so as a member of the GCB’s Cricket Development Committee and the Organising Committee for the Cricket World Cup in 2007 and the Twenty20 World Cup in 2010 and news of his passing came as a great shock to the members of the GCB.
The Supreme Umpire had raised the finger and indicated that the innings was over. The man who for years held that power to adjudicate has been given out.
The Executives of the GCB, the members of the sub-associations across Guyana, the players and officials at the Club and other levels will all miss his commanding presence.
The Board extends sincerest condolences to his family in this moment of grief.
