Both squads include players having limited or no international experience todate, however to my mind this ought not to lead us to conclude that the games could be close run things. From a selection point of view a big factor that will differentiate the final elevens is the bowling lineups.

England's experienced bowlers (Anderson, Swann) are 'top draw' on the international scene. Finn and Bresnan have both put in useful performances in the international games they have played. Big things are expected of Jade Dernbach. On top of that there is the issue of the timing of the games! If rain does not scupper things altogether, the overhead and atmospheric conditions could represent and even greater challenge to the WI players. Damp, overcast and cloudy weather will undoubtedly favour England's bowlers.

So to my mind WI have it all to do, but we should not be too discouraged if results don't go our way. Bishoo has a great opportunity to continue his progress at international level. Sammy's bowling style should be well equipped for the conditions and Russell ought to be a handful for those who haven't played him yet. Marlon Samuels will have a pivotal role as a senior player in the squad; Dwayne Smith is making a comeback of sorts at WI representative level.

Sections of the England press are grumbling about the usefulness of these games, citing their lateness in the season and the fact that they are only necessary as a result of the lack of judgement shown by the ECB and its involvement with Sanford.

Nonetheless I look forward to the two games.

Mike, we need Simmons on the team.. Hi is an all-rounder who can keep, set up the batting and bowl a few if necessary.
