Dhaka, Bangladesh – As he unveiled the trophy for the T20 International, West Indies skipper Darren Sammy also unveiled his team’s plan to move up the International Cricket Council’s rankings.

First ball in Tuesday’s T20 International at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium is 5 pm (7 am Eastern Caribbean Time/6 am Jamaica Time).

Sammy, the hard-working allrounder, revealed the plan to go top five in the cricketing nation by 2015. He indicated that the long walk has already started and the team is committed to making strides as players and as a unit.

“Like every other series, winning this series is also very important. We have way forward for this team which is to be in the top five in world rankings by 2015. So every series we play is important to achieve that goal,” Sammy told the reporters during the pre-match conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

“I’m quite happy with the preparation. It started way back in Barbados. Then we were in England where we played two T20s, we stopped in Dubai in very hot condition. And since we have been here we continue our practice sessions.”

“Normally the pitch here favours the spinners, I guess we will have to play accordingly. We have done our homework going to Dubai to get familiar conditions which we will be facing here. We are quite prepared to face the Bangladeshi spinners.”

Sammy rated the Bangladeshis as tough opponent especially as they have home advantage.

“We are not going to take them lightly. We have been doing some good stuff and have prepared well for the series. Hopefully tomorrow (Tuesday) would be an exciting cricket. Bangladesh are always a tough contenders,” the 27-year-old said.

“We never underestimated them. I believe whoever goes out there and plays more consistent and execute their plan properly will come out victorious. We played well here in two of our practice matches. We have an important series to play and so far, we are building up ourselves for the series.” link

WTF? Them destroyed the full strength team and rebuilt on quick sand shooting for top 5? WTF? Top 5 in what, test or ODI? Everyone aiming for #1, we settling for top 5... LOL ... Is this what we rebuilding for? These guys are nothing but a bunch of jokers... How are we going to get deh Sammy when you unbalanced the team?

So what is the short term goal, like 2012, 2013, 2014 ?

I'm sure there is a roadmap somewhere how you plan to get to #5 or you just pulled it out of think air?

Them building a team and there is not ONE batsman (youngsters) with 40+ average in any form of the game...

How are they going to compete?

BallOil and ntini,

You may mock what's been said, but this goes back to what i said before, where were we in the rankings with all our recent first choice players anyway?...

i don't think we've been in the top 5 since Richie Richardson's captaincy. We've been near the bottom of the rankings since the late 90s and this is with the likes of having great players like Ambrose, Walsh, Lara and Chanderpaul, those guys have excellent stats but what does that say about our team as a collective unit?...you joke about our team aiming to be mediocre, but the truth is that we've been mediocre as a team for well over a decade.

There's no doubt that the current state of West Indies cricket is a mess for various reasons, but the way i see it, starting from scratch can't do much worse than what has been done already.

I don't think anyone is mocking but just annoyed the way they go about doing things.. They rid all the seniors for green unproven players... Players should earn their spot by knocking down the damn door... There is NO selection on Merit, a captain who can't command a spot on the team... The selectors are all over the place, etc. What are we building, a dog and pony show?

EXACTLY!!.. you tell them naive skunts!! , they seem to forget that it was just the other day that WE FELL TO 8TH PLACE IN THE TEST RANKINGS after we lost to SA at home in 2010, since then we've managed to get above NZ again after we drew in SL and we're closing in on Pakistan in 6th place, which we will get if/when we beat Bangladesh in the Tests,

We can't run before we walk, the teams above us are very decent, India still have an experienced side and will be tough at home, SL have a decent batting order, SA are class and so are England while Australia looked impressive when they beat SL recently,

The main thing we've got in our favor is WE'VE GOT A YOUNG TEAM, while most of the others are counting on veterans, so the more experience our guys gain the better our team is likely to get, THAT'S WHY GIBBO IS SPOT ON TO CHUCK OUT THEM WUKLESS "SENIORS", they embarrassed the great WI shirt time and time again and it's time for a new dawn now.

To reach the top 5 by 2015 will mean that ...Eng, OZ, Pak, Ind, SA, SL are right now the top 6 and to be the Top 5 will mean that we will have to be infront of 2 of these 6 teams, suh de questions are:

1: Which of those teams will be displaced to mek way for WI to be in the top 5 without having the socalled PD's part of this drive to the top 5?

2: Looking at our current core players (seniors excluded and yuh know why), who are the ones that will tek us to where we want to be? Name them and justify why?

3: We are now ranked # 6 in tests and # 7 in ODI's and being in the top 5 fuh the next 4 years is a major achievement?

All this frigging chat about being in the top 5 is hogwash and will never materialize due to our incompetent, vindictive and malicious administrators.

BTW - more trouble next year when the next IPL auction takes place...I can guarantee you that West Indies cricket will lose a few more talented players and then they will be the target just like Gayle, Bravo, JT and Polly today. 8-)

WIth this group running things, WI will be lucky if they don't get downgraded to associate level, same level as team USA and Kanada!
