RECENTLY, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) sent out a media release calling on embattled opener Christopher Gayle to issue an apology for statements made on KLAS Radio in Jamaica last April, saying that he would not be considered for selection if same is not done. As he has done over the past two months, the 32-year-old Gayle, who blazed his way to a pugnacious ton in Jamaica’s commanding second-round victory over Combined Campuses and Colleges yesterday, asked the question “What should I apologise for?”

If Gayle feels that he has nothing to apologise for, then good for him for standing up in what he believes. But if he wants to kiss his International Career away then he's going the right way about it.
The reality for Gayle is that regardless of how this new look, West Indies side with alot of inexperienced players, the Board seems to be giving the Selectors, Management and Coach all the time they need to make any possible progress, regardless of how minimal they may be. It might never happen, but by the time that this is realised, the personnel will eventually change, but this could take years and has Gayle got the patience to wait around, with all the other financial opportunities to play for hire?
Unless there's coup at the top within the next year or so, Gayle will be a International spectator in his lime-green outfits and sailor hat, watching from the stands.

As funny as this sounds...Unless there's coup at the top within the next year or so, Gayle will be a International spectator in his lime-green outfits and sailor hat, watching from the stands.

It is too early to know what impact Gayle's current stance will have on WI cricket but if I was a betting man, I would bet that it would significantly assist both players and WICB administrators in better decisions regarding emploer/employee relationship going forward.
Everytime Gayle is asked a question regarding that famous interview...he is not wavering or buckling under pressure and this make me believe him even more with the contents of that interview. I have read numerous posts and heard different opinions about Gayle getting away with indiscretion in the past and now Hilaire and Gibbo is out to stop that. Can someone list a few of those indiscretions?
Yes, its obvious he said something true again in this article - at least by ME...."There are double standards in selecting WI team"... Do you think he is lying?

This whole problem started when Gibson came out and publicly blamed the 'seniors' for the West Indies disappointing performance in the World Cup. Shiv publicly and angrily reacted to the criticism, and it's well-known that Sarwan was not amused either. Benn also had a falling out with Gibson, and he's now on the sidelines too. And, as we know all too well, Gayle also gave an interview on radio expressing anger at the public criticism.
Well, the 'seniors' are no longer a part of the team, and I haven't seen any significant improvements that tell me that this team is a shoo-in for the semi-finals the next time the World Cup comes around....
This is what Gayle is referring to when he talks about double-standards. To take a case in point, the selection of Carlos Brathwaite to the limited overs teams is in spite of his not taking part in one of the regional competitions. So, how can the WICB justifiably say that Gayle, Big Bravo and Pollard can't play for the Windies in the limited overs versions if they don't play in the regional tournament? Those rules didn't apply to Carlos Brathwaite....
Has Gibson retracted the unfair comments he made about 'senior players' after the World Cup losses? I don't think so....
In Gayle's mind, until Gibson does so, he's unlikely to apologise. Yes, it may mean the end of his international career, but the cold hard facts are that Gayle doesn't need West Indies cricket right now. He can earn more than enough money playing 20/20 cricket around the world, and if he doesn't want to apologise, it's not going to hurt him.
His absence from the WI team is hurting West Indies more than it's hurting Gayle....

Mike, your assessment is spot on! All of a sudden this is about Gayle's interview and not what trigger that interview. Sometimes even the FANS need to see this is about more than Gayle and rather than any Band Aid solution, theyt need to look at the ROOT cause of the ongoing mistrust between Players/Management and try to fix it for the long term.
From a personal standpoint, I would be disappointed if GAYLE now decide to withdraw or apologize just because he wants to play for the WICB...thats total B$...
CHRISTOPHER HENRY GAYLE is too talented of a player to not last at least another 4 years (yes I seh 4 years) in the T20 circuit. With cricket being a GLOBAL game, I would be supporting him wherever he plays.
We all know that those buffoons are busy analyzing that interview right now to see what Gayle needs to withdraw...I can't wait fuh dem to tell him what needs to be withdrawn!!!
