" FIRE IN BABYLON "

I have seen Fire in Babylon , and learnt a few things that I did not know before . In an instant of candor , Colin Croft stated that while he was playing Cricket during the Apartheid Regime in South Africa , he was once ordered off from a train because of his colour . my take is that he got what he deserved .
I had no idea that in the International Cricket Community there was so much pressure to do something regarding our Pace Bowlers . I was not living in the Region at that time so I was surprised by the uproar .
However I was not surprised when the one bouncer Rule was instituted , to curb the potency of our Players . that has been done to our Players for years . This is why it was absolutely no accident , in my opinion when England decided to ban overseas Players from playing in England . My belief was that it was mainly aimed towards Our Players , but they decided to include ALL
Players so as not to make it look so obvious .
I also have no doubt that the ECB knew that by doing this would eventually not only lower the Standard of Cricket in the Region ; but also cause our Players to lose their competitiveness . I also believe that the ECB knew that the WICB would do nothing to make our Players retain their competitiveness , and the ECB was right .
Wittingly or unwittingly the WICB played into the hands of ECB . That in my opinion is an unpardonable Sin ; because the WICB true to form did nothing . I deem this an unpardonable Sin , because had the WICB had Vision and Foresight ; it would have realized that at some point not only the standard of Cricket in the Region would decline , but also the competitiveness of our Team .
The truth is that by not seeking to to have a Regional Pro or Semi Pro League at that juncture when our Players were recognized all over the World , and had Prestige , therefore getting Financial Sponsors to do this would have been easy , by not doing this , the WICB really failed the Region . My take is that if these options were not feasible ; then increasing the duration of the Regional Tournaments would have helped our Players maintain their competitiveness .
WE all have to understand that the Standard of Cricket in the Region is lower than that of Teams that are ranked above our Team . I honestly dont think that anyone can dispute this . Again I have to stress that because our Players were not allowed to play in England , and also the advent of the current ICCC Scheduling Format which curtails Tours , it is essential that Camps , of a duration of not less than 3 weeks , must be mandatory ; if WE want our Players to be competitive .
Camps were not necessary during the Golden Eras of West Indies Cricket due to the fact that many matches were played before and between the Test Matches . Our Players in those Eras had ample time to get acclimatized to both the Climate and condition of the Pitches .
