as a westindian batsman.
Samuels is a joke. twice in this match he has not coughed up runs when westindies desperately needed some. and he did not make much in Bang either when the chips were down.
he did well in the shorter games so maybe that is where the selectors shud concentrate his efforts. but his time in the test team must be nearing an end for lack of runs.
I cant argue in his favour like I did for Sars and Shive becuse samuels has never scored for westindies. on that basis he has prolly the rest of this tour to make so runs or depart the test team

I am fast losing patience with Samuels....
He's 30 now, and should be over the rashness of youth. He should be bringing his experience to bear on what is an inexperienced team, but his batting is still inconsistent. His Test average of under 30 doesn't do his talent justice, and the plan should be to get it to rise steadily until it reaches near 40. However, his batting seems to indicate that he's unlikely to rise above 30 any time soon....
There are only two things keeping him in the side - aside from Shiv, Kirk and Bravo, the other batsmen aren't really saying much either, and Samuels' ability to take wickets with his spin is giving the West Indies bowling attack some variety, after being unbalanced by the inclusion of Sammy.

Another one here that is disappointed in Marlon...grant it I think dat he is not comfortable batting at # 6....but as a professional cricketer, he need to show his hunger for runs....I think dat Lil B is another major concern...

the man publicly stated that he prefers the number 3 position. In addition to giving his wish so he can't make excuses, it will be a good move to spread the exerpienced Samuels and Chanderpaul up the order and in the middle! This way they youngsters can be guided at the middle where it matters!

I would like to see Shiv batting at four, Bravo at five, and Samuels at six....
I can't understand why Samuels wouldn't be happy batting at six. He plays spin better than pace, or he's
supposed to be able to play spin better than pace.

I don't think Shiv would want to bat at 4 and de reason being he don't want to mess with Sars position..

....
Question fuh you Mike..Is Darren Bravo stint at the #3 slot, the shortest in the history of batsman playing 10 or more tests?

While I am not on a downer with Samuels the question that mapoui raises here might be a very pertinent one because I got a feeling that the West Indies selection panel is now determined to promote the younger players into the squad. Given his age, relative non-performance at test match level and the amount of cricket he has missed Samuels might be not have much time to cement his place in the squad. Additionally the spectre of Gayle (hopefully) coming back in must surely be on a few of the upper order batsmen's minds... and even that doesn't happen soon there is Barath (if he can stay injury free for a while) who ought to be given a chance.
The selectors have a bit of a headache and depending on performances we might be in for a lot of chopping and changing and alas Samuels might be a casualty - if he continues to be an inconsistent performer.

it does not matter where samuels bats. his place is on the line so HE better use any position and opportunity to score some runs.
Samuels is a cricketer and he does not have a choice as to where het bats. he has not established anything at all as a batsman so he cannot be a choser. he has to tek wat is given to him
if he wants number #3 he has to earn it down at #6. case closed.
Samuels must score some damm runs to reopen all discussion and opinion about his place.
I wud be happy for a performing samuels to bat at #3. dat being the case I wud drop lil Bravo down to 6 and mek him too earn a higher position, or drop him altogether if he does not score.
edwards wud bat at #4 and shive at 5#

Well him doan need to worry bout dat anymore cause SARS DONE!!...

, Samuels might have failed in this test but lets remember he did hit an unbeaten 70 odd against them earlier this year, that was one of the best innings i've seen from a WI batsman in a long time, plus his bowling has become crucial to us aswell, so he stays for now but hopefully he'll at least get himself a 40 odd in the next game and get himself going with the bat,
If his poor form continues though the only man i'd consider replacing him with would be Narsingh Deonarine, he can bowl Off-spin effectively like Marlon and at least gets in most of the time, he'll need to score big in the next four day season though.
