Posted this on CC.com other day. Afro what you think of this? Was Captain Lloyd being disrespectful to his "employer"?

Yorkshire COuntry Cricket Club were told that their controversial friendly one-day match with teh WEst Indies at Hull on June 3 cannot be played.

The West Indies Cricket Board of Control had wanted Yorkshire to drop Geoffrey Boycott and Arnie Sidebottom who both have made "rebel" tours to SOuth Africa.

...

EArlier WEst Indies CAptain Clive Lloyd attacked the board over their stand

Lloyd said " It is ludicrous. I think they should play and I hope commonsense prevails"

It's not as bad as what Chris said though is it Joshua? :D and Lloyd didn't lambast the head coach either,

Another thing is the board might have felt inclined to let that comment slide considering we were on the brink of becoming the greatest test team that ever played the game.

Afro you skunt, there was no head coach during Lloyd's time. it was a manager and a trainer. his direct boss was the board president.

Secondly that comment was made in 1983 well after we had risen to the top and were still the top ranked team in the world.

not completely true. kalli signed with packer. when the icc slapped a illegal ban on players who signed for packer- kalli hurriedly withdrew his contract instead of waiting to see the result of the court case. kalli should have stood his ground there. in the end the court case ruled the ban was illegal.

neverthless the fact is lloyd spoke out many times against the board, selectors and even umpires and did not have to apologize for anything.

"Trainer".."manager".."coach" WHATS THE DIFFERENCE? , someone was still guiding that team, today all we hear from is Gibbo who is effectively the players "TRAINER",

Also in 1983 IT WAS JUST THE BEGINING OF THE DOMINATION, the famous "blackwash" didn't even happen yet!!..and we were only five series unbeaten out of the 29 series we went undefeated for..THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING, Lloyd's words were nowhere near as bad as Gayle's, and any true WI fan would know that.

Actually Josh, i heard it was a different contract with Warickshire that made him withdraw his acceptance with Packer. He had no choice. He wanted to play with Packer and was one of the first players to sign up.

regardless of which contract that "forced" his withdrawal, it was not that he didn't want to go.

There is a big difference. there was the manager who was camacho and there was waite the trainer. the manager was responsible for organizing things but he wasnt a coach. the captain for the most part had control over the team and its affairs and worked with the manager and trainer. it was only after we got a coach.
