Kolkata, India — Adrian Barath is thinking long-term as he looks to get back on track after recovering from an injury sustained last month in Bangladesh. In his short international career the young right-hander has suffered a few setbacks but revealed he is feeling fit and strong again ahead of the second Test against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

"Barath last played during the One-Day Series in Bangladesh which the Windies won 2-1. He was ruled out of the Test matches in Chittagong and Dhaka and spent the time doing rehabilitation work. He made a full recovery but missed out on selection in the starting XI for the Delhi match. His last Test match was against India in Dominica in July."
:?
Are the selectors idiots? How could they have omitted Barath to play Powell and Brathwaite against India in India?

Why they want to play Barath now for? He couldn't make the team in the first test but in the 2nd? WI is in this predicament cause of off field decisions and them blaming players. :P

Ever heard of the word "never change a winning team" Mike? perhaps that's what they were doing? doesn't matter now Powell will be dropped and Barath and Brathwaite can finally start a partnership which should hopefully last for many years to come.

A winning team against Bangladesh is not a winning team against India....I would've thought the jokers who run our WI team would know that!
:?
And it does matter...because we're 1-0 down in the Test series. A look at the stats of those three players could tell anyone with any sense that it was stupid to omit Barath for his less experienced team-mates.

So if Barath would have played and done his hamstring again then what? he's had a long rest now so hopefully he'll be fully fit and ready to make some runs.

Guys, i can only assume that they thought Barath wasn't pshyically ready to play a test match so soon and needed a little more time ( nets, training-drills, conditioning etc) so he'll be more prepared for the second test. Powell might've been rewarded for his efforts in the winning test against Bangladesh, but the match in Delhi showed that he's not quite ready for this level of opposition yet. So i'm pretty sure that Barath will come in for him.

Also if the track is going to take spin, as predicted then Shane Shillingford might come in for Rampaul or Fidel (i know some of you are thinking Sammy, but we know that's not gonna happen). The biggest concern for me is how Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels, two of the more supposedly established players in the batting line-up (Shiv aside of course!) will approach this match after failing to read the spinners in Delhi.

If Barath still has hammy problems, then he shouldn't be on the tour of India....

However, the article said he'd made a "full recovery" but was omitted. If he's fit to play, he should be picked. The end result is that he wasn't picked, and we're 1-0 down in the series. So, the gamble to open with Powell and Brathwaite didn't work, and we're off to a bad start in this Test series despite looking so good for most of the first Test. Who knows, if we'd had the experience at the top of the order, maybe our batting wouldn't have collapsed the way it did in the second innings when the pressure was on....

Powell was out for two and Brathwaite for a duck in the second innings, after which India sensed blood, and went in for the kill. We sorely missed a more experienced head at the top of the order in the second innings. That was where the tide turned in favour of India....

Can we turn the tide back our way after this missed opportunity? Or does 3-0 beckon?

And like Silva, I'm also worried that Bravo and Samuels haven't lived up to their early billing. It's crucial that they come to the party in the second Test....

Erm Brathwaite wasn't out for a "duck" in the second innings, he may have only got two runs but he did hold off the Indian's until the last over before close, so he done ok despite the low score. Powell though was just a walking wicket and i hope to see him return to the A-team and learn more skills.
